What is YOGA MAT?
Yoga mat also known as non- slip mat or sticky mat is used to protect oneself from slipping on the floor while doing yoga postures.
WHY TO USE YOGA MAT?
It helps in doing minor adjustments while doing yoga poses and works as insulator between ones feet and floor.
When we do yoga with other people , yoga mat is our space, our territory where we will not be disturbed by other and we do not step in their space.
If we think hygiene wise, when we do some intense practice , we sweat a lot and release a lot of toxins. They get attached to mat and when other person uses it , there are chances of developing any kind of discomfort or allergy on the skin.
MAT WILL NEVER JUDGE YOU.
When we do yoga on our own mat everyday , we build a connection with it.
It is like our companion or shadow in the practice and always supports us in the best possible way.
There will be times when one will feel so comfortable and relaxed on mat that the emotions will start flowing and one will release all that doesn’t serve him.
Using ones own mat, or carrying it daily to class instills a bit more discipline and makes practitioner a little aware.
Many times while trying new poses or doing inversions we fall and it is always a better idea to fall on a mat than on hard floor (This is my personal experience)
SELECTION OF RIGHT MAT
It is really important to choose the right kind of mat as it should be non -slippery , thick and made of good quality material to get the maximum benefit of using it. It should not cause any kind of discomfort while doing YOGA. Now a days we get a lot of eco- friendly mats. One should consider buying a mat an investment.
